Garnier BB Cream

So I had only vaguely heard of BB cream until recently. I'd read about how it's very big in Asia, but as my skin was always quite bad, I never really wanted any foundation that gave extra moisture.  BB (blemish balm) cream was originally designed for women who've had skin peels, to protect the skin until it's fully healed, but women, especially in Japan and Korea, picked up on it and started using it for cosmetic reasons.

Now I'm a bit older, the spot situation has kinda sorted itself out and I've started thinking about future-proofing my skin. Normally I use Lush's Jackie Oates Colour Supplement, mixed with SPF 50 moisturiser, or in the winter, Lush's Enzymion moisturiser.

When BB cream started making an appearance in this country, I thought it would be a good thing to try. One of my favorite higher-end brands, Illamasqua, released their Skin Bases bb cream, and I really wanted to try that, but due to the cost, I thought I'd maybe experiment with a cheaper brand first. The cheapest one on the market seemed to be by Garnier, and they're known as a good brand so I had it in my mind to try.

I hadn't got round to buying it, but I got a sample sachet in a magazine, so tried it out yesterday morning. It actually feels very nice and smooth going on. My skin is quite dry and sore from the weather at the moment, and it did sting ever so slightly putting it on but it was nowhere near unbearable. It made my skin feel lovely and smooth and even. It actually did feel a little bit drying, which was odd for something called 'balm' but maybe it's just because my skin was sore anyway.

I was all set to give it an all-day trial, but when I looked in the bathroom mirror, which has better lighting, my face was bright orange! Unfortunatly the Garnier BB only comes in dark, medium and light, and the light is, well, not all that light! In fact, I think it would have matched my olive-skinned boyfriends skin tone more than mine! Such a shame because I would have liked to have given it a proper try-out. Limiting the colour range like that just cuts out so many potential customers who don't have the exact same skin tone.

This is why I'm probably going to try the Illamasqua Skin Base now. They do everything in a range of colours from the purest white to the darkest black, so everyone is covered! I assume I could probably blag a sample or something before I pay out for it...

Black Cat Awareness Day!

Today it's Black Cat Awareness Day, so hopefully animal shelters across the country will be making an effort to try and make prospective cat-parents consider adopting a black cat.

For some reason, black cats seem to be the ones left in shelters for longer, perhaps due to superstition or just because they don't catch people's eyes as much. It's so sad because they are obviously just as loving and friendly as any other cat.

I've grown up with black cats all my life, and have two currently, Ninja and Loki. I initially chose a black cat because I wear mostly black so their fur wouldn't show up on my clothes! But they are just so gorgeous, I love the way their eyes seem to glow out of the darkness when they're hiding... Plus me and the boyfriend take great joy in mocking each other when the 'cat' we've been talking to for hours turns out to be a pile of black clothes on the floor!

Happy Diwali! :)

I'm not religious myself but I have a lot of time and respect for Hindus and would love to visit India one day and learn more about the religion and culture. I love how Hindu festivals seem to be about beautiful things and enjoying your religion, rather than sitting in a place of worship for hours or depriving oneself. We've had a lot of of fireworks going off round our way, and it's a nice celebration to brighten the cold Autumn days.

A Hindu workmate has brought in some yummy things, and some pretty little candles for our office today, so that's made me smile!

Some pretty Diwali images to enjoy :)

Fashion Crushes

I'm pretty bored at work today... Having a real Google orgy and looking at clothes, reassessing my wardrobe. I'm realising that I'm growing up and I don't wanna dress in the way I did when I was younger, and I don't wanna dress to look 'grown-up' because I'm quite confident in myself that I am an adult... It's good, I'm really enjoying fashion at the moment :)

I know most of the London it-girls are a talentless bunch of brats, but I do love the look. I think it's very much a London-y style, kinda thrown together, anything goes. It's a world avay from the way American rich girls dress, all sleek and polished and blingy.

Alice Dellal just does the grungy look so well!

Peaches is a twat, but Pixie Geldof wears some really unusual, interesting stuff...

Daisy Lowe looks dangerously sexy in ANYTHING!

Oh I adore the Bape campaign she did!

Alison Mosshart is stunning

She wears jeans so well!

Kreayshawn is my little ghetto indulgance!

She so colourful!

Taking 'curvy' back

Now, I'm the first one to curse my curves at every opportunity, but I've decided to embrace what I have. However, in most women's magazines (which I've since decided not to read) 'curvy' means plus size... So when they do a feature about what clothes works for what body type, theres pear shaped, apple shaped, boyish shaped, and curvy... And yeah, curvy means overweight... I'm only a size 8,or a 10 in clothes with less boob/hip room!

It's very hard to dress an hourglass figure when you're younger too... It tends to be all 'elegant' suggestions, whereas I quite like looking a bit grungy and alternative.

I know  Kim Kardashian isn't a real celebrity in the sense that she doesn't actually do anything as such but I always find myself looking at articles about her and Googling pictures of her because it's good to see a girl with a big curvy bum and big boobies dressing in a young way. Even though her look is a bit polished for me, I like to see the shapes she wears. I think she sticks to my rule of tight jeans and big shoes... Plus it's really good to see someone hourglass shaped not looking like a potato in a sack...

Love the shape of this outfit

Christina Hendricks has the most amazing boobies!

I love how Nicki Minaj works her curves in a modern way without going for the 'elegant' thing...

How stunning is this woman???

I would kill to look like Siouxsie Sioux when I'm in my 50s! I'd look like a killer whale in a condom if I tried to wear a Pam Hogg jumpsuit at 21, let alone at 54!

I love how she doesn't look 25 anymore, or look like she's trying to. She looks her age, but great for it. What a cracking figure though! And I love to see an older lady rocking the black hair, I hate the thought of having to change my hair colour when I'm older!

I just love how she always looks so aloof and reserved in pictures, no gurning into the camera or grinning. I saw her play a few years ago and she has such amazing presence.
Obviously she's always been stunning

This article makes my blood boil...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2052947/Where-did-little-girl-Why-DIANA-APPLEYARDS-daughter-wanted-goth-10-ear-piercings.html

Ugh, this is exactly the kind of middle-class, closed minded, parent who literally cannot get their head round the fact that people may have different opinions to her, and who bugs the tits off me!

If you couldn't use the link, it's a parent in sensible M&S type clothes, who sent her precious little daughter to boarding school, and when she picked her up, she'd become *shock horror* a goth! And this Mother is taking it so horribly personally!

Sure, it may be a phase. But if not, well, it's what the girl wants to do. I'm sure the writer didn't want to dress in the same style as her Mother, and her Mother probably thought her music was to raucous, or raunchy or whatever.

I think myself so so lucky that both my parents are 'alternative' too. My Dad is very into his Vince Ray tshirts, Doc Martens, old cars and rockabilly music, and my Mum has bright orange hair, piercings and lives in vintage clothes. The worst reaction I've had to a body mod was a bit of eye-rolling, which I can totally put up with! My boyfriend's Mum is also into her Cyberdog style clothes and drum'n'bass, and again, I'm lucky there because I have a lot of friends who have to compete with disapproving in-laws.

I wonder if the writer of the article would have been happier if her daughter had bounded out the school gates in a tracksuit and big gold earrings and started calling everyone 'bruv'...? Goth kids generally don't associate with gangs, don't fight, don't go out mugging old ladies, and don't end up getting into drugs all that often (of course there are exceptions, but it's rare in my experience). I work within the criminal justice system and in the grand scheme of all the awful things I see young people doing day to day, wearing black and getting a bit happy with the Schwarzkopf Blue Black is not up there...

It just bugs me because my parents have always been so good in appreciating how I want to look, and I hope to do the same for my kids. In my mind I pray that my kids won't grow up liking football or R'n'B but I like to think I'd just be happy to see them enjoying themselves. My boyfriend is a massive Warhammer fan, and while I'm not really into it myself, when he's showing me endless pictures of small wizards, I try and at least appreciate the skill behind it and show some interest!

So yeah, the writers daughter may grow out of it, she may not. But the Mum should count her blessings that her daughter is still a friendly, clever girl, and she's not out mugging people and smoking crack like some kids her age are! And bear in mind that she's feeling the same as every Mother in the 50's who was disgusted by Elvis Presley's thrusting and every Dad in the 70's who questioned his Son's sexuality when he stepped out in platforms and glitter....

Weekend in Manchester!

Oh I've had such a lovely weekend! Me and the boyfriend went to meet up with some friends in Manchester, and I've now decided I want to live there!

Whenever I've thought of Manchester before, I've thought of the Gallaghers, Ian Brown, and other Northern 'monkey boys' in parkas, and thats about it. But I wanted to see more of England and I knew seeing our friends would be nice so we booked our tickets last week!

We got up at the crack of Dawn on Saturday, threw on our clothes and rushed to the Station, which it turns out was shut due to work being done on the tracks, so a frenzied rush to the Station ensued. We actually missed our train, but managed to hop on the next one. It was a Virgin train and was really lovely and comfy! I like train journeys, and this was lovely, watching the sun coming up over the Countryside.

We arrived in Manchester, and in the first few minutes of having left the station, we found a weird little collectible/book shop. I got a stack of serial killer books and the boyf got a load of graphic novels for mega cheap!

We had a good wander, found lots of little nerd shops for the boyf, and I got some jewellery in a little ethical trinket shop. Then we stumbled upon Afflecks Palace, which I've heard a lot about from friends. It's really awesome, it's about 3 stories of little stalls of all different things, some vintage, some handmade clothes, jewellery, fancy dress.. I bought a cute vest with a cat face on and the boyf got a tshirt from a stall called Me And Yu, which I love, and plan to buy lots more of from their website!

We then ended up in a cafe called Koffee Pot, on a friends reccomendation. It's a cute little place, with lovely big graffiti murals on the walls, a good radio station playing, and lots of trendy types inside. We had a good sized fry-up and cuppa each, which was so much cheaper than London, I was tempted to order and consume another! I tried black pudding (blood sausage) for the first time too! I remember my Dad eating it years ago and being grossed out because it was made of blood. But apparently it's a big thing up North, so I gave it a shot and it was lovely! Very savoury and kinda herby, delicious!

I'd always heard of the piercing shop Holier Than Thou, as being very reputable, and a good place to get hard mods like tongue splitting, so once I was full of food, we walked up the road and tracked it down. I fancied getting something pierced as a souvenir, and as it was so super cheap! I got my other nostril pierced as I'm on a pretty big symmetry kick at the moment! The piercer was very good, and it looks nice, if very swollen!

After than, we headed to a friends house who lives in Heaton Chapel nearby. I was surprised by how lovely and rural the area was, and the house itself was beautiful, with a big basement and a lovely fireplace. It's fairly cheap in that area too, so it's really somewhere I'd consider living if I tire of London.

We met up with some mates and had a nice little pub crawl around the town, had a good laugh, bonded with the only other lady in the gang, and reduced grown men to squealing babies with my tongue split video! Unfortunatly I can't give you the names of the pubs we went to as they all kinda blurred into one after a while!

We ended up back at our friends house, crashed out on a cozy airbed in the basement!

In the morning we were served another heavenly fry-up (those Northerners cook a banging breakfast!) and slumped on the sofa watching our friends watch the football. Neither me or the boyf are from football watching families so we've never really seen someone get rabidly excited about the footie, and it was rather amusing for us!

We travelled home first class, which was nice, and arrived home to find my Rock and Roll Bride magazine on the doorstep, so I was happy about that! Although I'm not planning to get married for a while, I love Kat Williams and her alt. wedding porn, and I was happy to support her by buying a magazine! I implore anyone who is planning to marry at some point, or who just fancies going soppy over wedding pics, to check her blog out!

Anyway, thats my weekend! I'll try and post pics of my purchases once I'm home! Now back to work/looking at house prices oop North!

Deryck Todd *drool*

My boyfriend has just emailed me to alert me to the existance of a wonderful designer called Deryck Todd... As far as I've seen on my crap work internet, he makes hats embellished with cool stuff like spikes and jewels and chains.. I really want one of the trucker caps, to rock the kinda ghetto-goth look!

This is the one I'd go for...

Looks HEAVY!

Or this one would do me...

Hair ramblings

Wow, quiet day at work... I'm finding my mind wandering to shaving bits of my hair off...

I had an undercut at the back of my head for a while last year and loved the nice fuzzy-velvet feeling of the short hair... The boyfriend loved nuzzling in it too :)

I had a little Bettie Page fringe for a while this year which I loved while I was in a little rockabilly phase over the Summer, but I found I got a bit bored of it, and it got annoying as it grew out. So I've grown that out now and just have my hair swept to the side.. But I'm getting that shaving urge again...

I'm thinking a kinda Alice Dellal thing, she looks so lovely and her hair gives an edge to any outfit she wears. Plus you get the long, sexy tousled look, and have the lovely, warm, fuzzy hair feel too! Hers isn't too extreme either so I don't think work will complain....

Oh, oh, and, and... I found a really good nude nail polish! I'm currently obsessed with nude nails and I've been trying to track down the perfect creepy-manneqin-hands colour. I was gonna get Mannequin from Topshop, but it looked too orange when I looked in the shop. I may still try it one day, but I ended up buying a Maybelline one called Ivory Rose. It's pretty much clear with 2 coats but I've been using 4 and it comes out really well! I've been alternating that and Barry M mushroom, just really not feeling the usual bright nails at the moment!

Also been perving on Jeffrey Campbell Lita shoes, like every other woman in the world at the moment... I've seen some girls with amazing collections of different styles. I do like it when a designer releases the same piece of clothing in different designs. It means you can stick with a look or silhouette you like but give it a bit of variation. In the same way I have about 5 different variety of black Doc Marten boots I suppose. I usually am not keen on wooden heels, but I actually don't mind it on the Litas.
Here are the two I'm lusting ober:

Vera Wang black wedding dresses!

Although I have no plans to get married for the forseeable future, I have spent time perving over dresses a fair bit, and I've always planned to wear something long and black from All Saints for the big day when it comes. I look my best in black, and if my wedding photos will be in family albums for generations to come I wanna be looking good!
I've never been one for frills and lace (unless worn in a ripped up, Courtney Love kinda way) but these Vera Wang black wedding dresses are so beautiful, especially with the kinda grungy hair the models have going on! I'd wear this kinda thing, if I was prepared to spend that amount of money on a dress I'd wear once...

I got these pics off the Daily Mail website,so there may be more in the collection.Sadly, the DM is one of the few news sites I can get on at work, so I don't have a choice in the crap I read. The original article is here if you'd like to read it, but I warn you now, the comments section seems to fill up with awful, middle-England type bellends spouting opinionated rubbish..

Cold cold cold!

There is a good chance my lungs are going to freeze over and solidify and I'll die a horrible death. but hopefully after my Manchester trip because I'm quite looking forward to that!

Bought some jeans, and for some odd reason bought boot cut style... It does suit me but looks so early 00s, I look like myself aged 12.... Comfy for slobbing round the shops in though, and make my arse look fantastic! Might have to buy some skinnies soon...The new jeans are by Bench and they seem a nice fit, so maybe I'll try and find a pair in skinny in TK Maxx on payday!

Also, the boyf found an amazing furniture site yesterday, called Yoox.com. They do clothes too but I only glanced at the McQueen, and the prices traumatized me...
It's made me determined to own a house I can decorate how I choose and fill with cool, weirdly shaped things! The homeware on Yoox is also crazy expensive, but at least I guess it will last well...
I also found out Diesel make the most amazing homeware too!

Look at this fit stool!

And this sexy cabinet!

Homewares aside, I've booked in to have the microdermal in my neck removed and a small scarification piece done to hide the scarring, which is mega exciting! I'm quite nervous about the pain, but I've survived a tongue split and hand-poking for 7 hours so how bad can it be?? Plus I won't be able to see what he's doing so that might make me feel a bit better about it!

Gonna pack for Manchester tonight I think... It looks to be freezing cold so I'm gonna layer myself up all cosy! Thinking of wearing wooly tights, Doc Martens and a plain black skirt and vest with a baggy grey jumper over, and my big cosy parka. And of course, one of my many ridiculous hats. Probably a furry one. Shall post pics!

Not posted in ages... Sorry! Been dying of some mystery illness which has made me achey and pathetic!

Been planning a trip to Manchester which is exciting! Maybe venturing to the colder climate of 'Oop North' might encourage me to finally buy some jeans! The plan is to meet some friends for drinks in the evening, so I'll have to day to explore the city... I hope it's cheaper than London!

I'm currently looking into having my nape microdermal removed too. It's a shame because I've had it for about 4 years, which is actually quite a while for a microdermal.

I got it when they were a fairly new thing, and it was done by Samppa Von Cyborg, who is a brilliant piercer. The problem was, he did the piercing, then had to hurry off to the airport to go abroad. I left the studio, got on my train, and after I'd got one stop away, I put my hand up to feel the piercing and felt the screw on disk had fallen off in the clingfilm I had over it. I hasten to add, this probably wasn't Samppa's fault at all, the jewellery may have been loose already, or maybe been loosened during the piercing.

I hurried back, but Samppa was already gone, so another piercer at the studio had to sort it. It had swollen quite a bit and he couldn't get the disk screwed back on. He put a 'healing post' in it, which is basically a kinda 3mm long post that screws in, so a swollen piercing won't have any problems with imbedding.

This would probably have worked fine, were the microdermal not on the back of my neck... I tried to sleep on my front but I assume I wiggle about in my sleep, and spend some time on my back, pushing the post sideways. It's healed really wonky unfortunalty, and jewellery really shows it up.

It's played up quite a lot over the past few years, so I think it's quite scarred, and might look quite unpleasant once it's out. It's only really visible when my hair's up, but still... I'm probably gonna speak to the artist about getting a smallish scarification piece on the back of my neck.. Maybe a little skull or a lotus..

I did say I'd take a break from mods after getting my foot hand-poked and my tongue split in a week, but these sort of plans never last long! I'm also pining the loss of my tongue web piercing that I had to take out when I had my tongue split. Hmm... Plans to be made I think....

Just a random one, but how sexy is this coat??? Very expensive from Topshop, but I usually wear coats to death so I'd get my moneysworth... Plus I can totally justify having a green parka and a black one..

Weekend fun!

Ugh, it was so horribly hot this weekend! We have two indoor cats too so we couldn't even open a window wide! I think I must have sweated out half my body weight!

On Saturday, my boyfriend was due to DJ that evening so we spent the day chilling out in town. I went into Lush to check out their new Christmas stuff. Aaargh it's so lovely!
I got a load of bath ballistics, the one of used so far was shaped like a massive Christmas present. I dropped it in the bath, and once the gold exterior fizzes off it starts fizzing an amazing blue colour and it's full of pretty little stars! Me and the boyf had a lovely cool bath, and with all the blue it looked and felt like lazing in the sea.

I also got some lip tint. They have three Christmas ones, Snow Fairy, a bright pink that was out last year, an orangey coloured one, and a pale goldy, shimmery pink called Celebrate. I have loads of Snow Fairy Lip Tint, and I love it. It's a lovely pink, makes my skin look nice and fresh!
Celebrate is really nice as a cheek tint, it has a kinda highlighter look to it. On the lips, it needs a bit of balm under it otherwise it can just look kinda dry and patchy. Only thing I don't like is that they have sprinkled popping candy on top of it... It's pointless and kinda annoying.

Boyfriend's night was a good laugh, very quiet but had a laugh with a friend and had fun watching people's weird dancing. It's the first week a lot of people are back at Uni, and I think a lot of people would have avoided clubs because of the heat so hopefully next week will be a bit better! The guy who ran the night gave up full control to the boyfriend as he's struggling to find the time, so we're gonna totally overhaul it! Hopefully will be great fun!

We spent Sunday chilling out, had a nice meal of salmon, mash, roast carrot and courgette, then watched the extended Anchorman Blu-ray with a bottle of wine.

Look at this cool wine bottle, I got it in Tesco for £6.99, it was tasty and looked so pretty..
Pretty wine!
